General Product Questions

Where are Smash products made?

All Smash products are researched and designed at our head office in Melbourne.   Manufacturing is done overseas and is overseen by our local offices to ensure quality is maintained to Smash standards.

Are Smash products BPA and phthalate free?

All products in the Smash range are BPA free!

BPA (Bisphenol A) is a chemical used to make a wide variety of products such as plastic bottles, containers and food lining. Recently, concerns have been raised about the safety of BPA. Smasia Enterprises ensure that all products are BPA Free and are safe to use.

The food contact surfaces such as the inside lining of our lunch bags and coolers are phthalate free* and have been tested and confirmed by leading international testing bodies.

*Phthalate free means that the products are tested against the leading international standards and confirmed to be free from (7P) phthalates.

Can my product be put in the dishwasher?

Whilst some Smash products are considered top rack dishwasher safe, this is highly dependent on the material the product is made from.

For product specific information, please refer to the product packaging or the markings on the base of the product to determine if it is top rack dishwasher safe or handwash only. You can find additional information under the Care and Use section of the FAQ’s.

If your product features a printed design, we often recommend hand washing to extend the life of your product. This includes when the product is marked as top rack dishwasher safe.

Can my product be put in the microwave?

Please refer to the packaging or base of the product to determine if the product can be placed in the microwave. Please ensure both the base and lid are microwave safe. If the lid is microwavable, please ensure you remove and place loosely on top prior to microwaving.

You can find additional information under the Care and Use section of the FAQ’s.

My Stainless-Steel container says it is microwave safe – is this true?

Yes, this is absolutely correct – we produce a range of Smash Blue Stainless Steel food containers which are 100% microwave safe.

We use an austenitic stainless steel that is non-magnetic, along with a highly guarded secret process in our production which allows the products on this page to be microwave safe. We have done countless hours of independent testing to international standards.

Please check the packaging to ensure your product is part of this range and follow the below steps:

  1. Before placing your microwave safe stainless steel product in the microwave, release the clips and seal.   Either rest lid loosely on top of the base or remove completely.
  2. Place product in the microwave and heat in maximum 1 minute increments at 1000W.   Stir, check contents and then heat for a further minute if required, until your desired temperature is reached.
  3. WARNING: always use an oven mitt when removing the container from the microwave, as it can be hot to touch.   Allow contents to rest, until it reaches a suitable temperature for consumption.

Can my product be put in the freezer?

Please check for a symbol on the packaging or base of your Smash product to determine if it is freezer safe.

If the product is freezer safe, we recommend only filling to ¾ capacity, to ensure there is room for the frozen contents to expand.

We don’t recommend freezing stainless steel or glass bottles, although you can certainly fill them with ice cubes to keep your water extra cold.

You can find additional information under the Care and Use section of the FAQ’s.

What is the best way to remove sticky residue from a packaging label?

Most labels will be removed without any residue, however if some is left on your product, we recommend using eucalyptus oil or citrus spray to remove this.

For labels that are tricky to remove, we would recommend hovering a hairdryer on low heat approximately 2 cm away from the label for between 1 – 2 minutes – this should soften the glue and make the label easier to peel away.   Ensure the product itself doesn’t overheat by keeping the hairdryer moving and check the temperature of the product regularly.   Let product cool completely before using.

What is the best way to clean my Smash product?

To prolong the life of your Smash product we recommend you follow the basic cleaning guidelines below:

  • Before use, disassemble all parts and hand wash in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly before allowing parts to air dry completely and reassembling/storing.
  • DO NOT clean with abrasive soaps or scouring pads.
  • DO NOT use chemicals such as bleach.

Insulated lunch or cooler bags – we recommend using a warm damp cloth to wipe the product inside and out.   Please ensure the bag material is allowed to fully air dry prior to storing.

Water Bottles – refer to the specific cleaning recommendations on each bottle.   If the bottle is top rack dishwasher safe, simply separate the bottle base and cap, place in the top rack of the dishwasher and then ensure they are left to fully air dry before reassembling.   If the bottle is recommended as hand wash only, separate the cap from the base and use warm soapy water and a bottle brush to get into all corners and crevices.   Allow to air dry thoroughly before reassembling or storing.

Please note even if your water bottle is top rack dishwasher safe, you can extend its life by hand washing.

Lunch Boxes and Plastic Containers – the majority of Smash lunch products will be top rack dishwasher safe but please refer to the base of the product to confirm. Ensure the lid is removed or open and secure the items in the top rack of the dishwasher.   Allow to air dry completely prior to reassembling or storing.

I think there is mould on my product, how can I remove it?

To avoid mould, please ensure your product is left to thoroughly air dry before reassembling or storing.   We recommend storing drink bottles with the lid removed or flip top left open, to allow air flow and to prevent a moist environment.

If mould is detected on silicone parts, then we recommend the following:

  1. Apply white vinegar to the mould area and leave to sit for half an hour or even overnight if it is a dense area.
  2. Use a soft cloth to work the vinegar covered mould in a circular motion until it starts to loosen and then wipe clean.
  3. If the mould is very stubborn, try a mixture of vinegar and bicarbonate soda to create a paste which can be applied to the mould affected area and left on overnight.   Then use a soft cloth to remove the paste and rinse.
Is there a way to remove dark/rust-coloured spots?

Although we use high quality food grade stainless steel, it is rust resistant and not necessarily rust proof.   If rust is detected, we recommend using a paste made of baking soda and vinegar on the rust spot – let it sit on the spot for 5-10 minutes and then scrub with a sponge or soft brush.

If the rust persists after trying the above, please contact our customer service team by clicking here.

My Gel Ice product has leaked into my lunchbox, should I be concerned?

The contents of the gel ice pack are food safe, non-toxic and should not pose any danger if a small amount has accidently been consumed.   We would however recommend you seek medical attention if you are at all concerned.

My Barista Buddy is leaking, what should I do?

Please check to see if the two small silicone seals are still in place – refer to the red highlighted seals in the below image (yours may be grey).   If these have come loose or are missing, this is likely to result in the cup leaking.   If it is missing, please contact our customer service team by clicking here.

My Triple wall sipper/chugger is leaking, what should I do?

Please check to see if the small black seal is in place on the underside of the lid – it should appear as it is in the image below highlighted by the arrow.   If this has come loose or is missing, this is likely to result in the bottle leaking.   If it is missing, please contact our customer service team by clicking here.

Please refer to the below video for the easiest way to seal the lid on your mini dip pots or to remove the lids from these containers.

DIP POT SEALING

My cup/flask is not retaining heat?

For best results, please ensure that the starting temperature of your contents is as warm as possible, filled to maximum capacity and the lid is sealed properly.

We also recommend that the flask is pre-warmed before the contents are added. Simply fill the flask with boiling water, seal with the lid and leave for 5-10 minutes. Please do not fill the flask higher than the inner line marking inside the flask.

Carefully tip out the boiling water, fill with your hot food and seal the lid.

To check if your insulated bottle or flask is working properly, simply fill with boiling water and the outer surface should remain cool to touch.  If the bottle/flask is hot to touch on the outer wall, the insulation may have become compromised – please contact our customer service team by clicking here.

Replacement Policy & Spare Parts

What is your replacement policy?

All Smash products come with a 12-month warranty which covers manufacturing defects – this is redeemable at the place of purchase for a refund or exchange upon presentation of the proof of purchase.   Alternatively, you can contact our customer service team who will assess the issue on a case-by-case basis.   The 12-month manufacturing warranty will not cover issues such as normal wear and tear or damage that occurs as a result of misuse.

Do you sell replacement parts for Smash products?

Yes, we sell a small range of replacement parts - please send through an image of the product to our customer service department via enquiries@smashenterprises.com.au and we will be able to determine if it is currently available.
